Olga Trapeznikova receives ESPRIT FWF grant

With a project titled “Enumerative geometry of character varieties” Olga was awarded an FWF ESPRIT grant 2025-2028. Congrats to Olga! Here is the abstract: “This project explores a class of geometric spaces known as character varieties, which capture how the shape—or topology—of a surface is governed by its symmetries. These symmetries are encoded by mathematical Read More …

Shon Ngo awarded ÖAW DOC fellowship

With a project titled “Big Algebras in Classical Types” Shon received a 2 year PhD DOC-fellowship starting October 2025. The highly competetive DOC Fellowship Programme of the Austrian Academy of Sciences offers funding for highly qualified doctoral candidates in all areas of research. This is the fourth DOC fellowship in the Hausel group in the last four years. It Read More …

The project ViaFiPos has been funded by a €2.5M ERC advanced grant. It will run 2026-2031. The Advanced Grant competition is one of the most prestigious and competitive funding schemes in the EU. The overall success rate was 11% while in the PE1 mathematics panel it was 10.5%. This follows the ERC advanced grant AriPhyHiMo between Read More …

“What is Life?” annual lecture

The public talk “Anatomy of big algebras” was delivered as the 2024 “What is Life?” annual lecture — formerly Schrödinger lecture — in the historic physics lecture theater at Trinity College Dublin organized jointly by the School of Mathematics and the Austrian embassy in Dublin. Abstract: Starting with Schrödinger’s critique of the difficulty of visualising Read More …

Two PhD students graduate

Anna Sisák defended her thesis: “T-dual branes on hyperkähler manifolds“, while Kamil Rychlewicz defended his: “Equivariant cohomology and ring of functions“. Congratulations to both!
